It Matters
Who Builds It.
Lauren Sato
Community is my deepest joy and my greatest act of rebellion. I am building Komyūn to help people find purpose and belonging, and for communities everywhere to thrive without exploitation.
Now is the time for humanity to come back together, and re-root in our shared experiences and purpose. After 15 years as a startup operator at the intersection of community and technology, I am building Komyūn to be the social operating system that is purpose-built for how humans connect and live life together.

I love to build things — platforms, teams, the occasional poem or song. cofounder of komyun, because I want the internet to feel more like a place where everybody knows your name.
Fueled by people, the ocean, nature, and the belief that technology is most powerful when it gets people into the same room.

I've designed for growth, for retention, for the metrics that keep investors happy. Fifteen years of it, across a lot of different companies. But the work that stayed with me was always about solving for something very human — do people feel something real when they use this? Komyūn is the first place I've been where that question is the whole point.

I love building products that help people connect and get things done in real communities. I’m a fullstack engineer with experience across frontend, backend, and infrastructure, focused on shipping fast, reliable features—from marketplace systems to real-time data flows. Specifically, I am drawn to problems where technology meets human behavior, with an emphasis on clarity, usability, and long-term value. Outside of engineering, I’m a dedicated musician, bringing the same discipline, creativity, and attention to detail from jazz into building thoughtful, expressive software.
